Professor Katherine Brickell
Principal Investigator

Katherine is Professor of Human Geography at Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL). For two decades, she has undertaken research in Cambodia on human rights issues from a gendered perspective. Her previous ESRC-FCDO projects have focused on domestic violence law and debt-bonded labour in the country. For updates follow her on Twitter.


Dr Netra Eng
Co-Investigator

Netra is Research Director at the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) in Phnom Penh. Her research interests centre on local understandings and responses of youth, women and elected sub-national officials to central and international development interventions. Netra’s work considers the implications of this local response for democracy and development in post-conflict Cambodia.  


Dr Sabina Lawreniuk
Co-Investigator

Sabina is Research Fellow in the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham. She works on the promotion of workers’ rights and women's rights in the global garment and footwear industry. Her ongoing projects explore women’s trade union representation (funded by a Leverhulme ECF 2017-2020) and women’s health and safety (funded by a Nottingham Research Fellowship 2020-2023) in Cambodia’s garment industry. For updates follow her on Twitter.


Dr Lauren McCarthy
Co-Investigator

Lauren is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy & Sustainability, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research into Sustainability at the School of Business & Management, RHUL. Lauren’s research interests centre on the gender dynamics of organisational responsibilities in global value chains, and how feminist movements are being increasingly shaped and framed by corporate power. She editor of the book Gender Equality and Responsible Business: Expanding CSR Horizons (Routledge 2016), and is on the editorial board of Business & Society and The Journal of Business Ethics. For updates follow her on Twitter.


Sophany San
Research Coordinator

Sophany is a Research Associate at CDRI and a gender and development specialist. She has conducted research on the work-life balance of female garment workers, the right to adequate housing, women’s rights and the right to a healthy environment. She is currently part of the Cambodia Gender and Inclusive Development Analysis (GIDA) project. She has expertise in conducting qualitative research with s key informants including National Government, INGOs, and Local NGOs.


Hengvotey So
Research Assistant

Votey has been a research assistant at CDRI for 4 years. She is currently part of the USAID project on Gender and Inclusive Development Analysis (GIDA). She is responsible for literature reviews and managing the qualitative data collection with the marginalised groups. In 2018, she was involved in the Zurich University-funded Skill for Industries project which aimed to understand to impact of skills improvement in support of industrial growth in Cambodia.


Theavy Chhom
Research Assistant

Theavy is Research Associate at CDRI. She is currently part of the USAID project on Gender and Inclusive Development Analysis (GIDA), with its focus on marginalised groups. The project aims to analyse existing gender gaps and key social, structural and institutional barriers, with links to the COVID-19 crisis. She is leading qualitative methods including photovoice and focus group through the lens of intersectionality.  


Reach Mony
Research Assistant

Reach is an intern at CDRI. She is a third-year student at the Department of International Studies (DIS) at Institute of Foreign Languages, Royal University of Phnom Penh. Reach provides support to the team in secondary data collection, literature reviews, literature syntheses, and interview transcription.


Pichny Soksambath
Research assistant

Pichny is an intern at CDRI. She holds a BA in International Relations from the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and a Law LL.B from the Royal University of Law and Economics. Her research interests centre on global governance, human security, humanitarian law, juvenile justice, and gender equality. Pichny’s undergraduate thesis focused on the securitisation of migration. She is involved in translations and data collection on the ReFashion study.


Thomas Cristofoletti
Photographer and videographer

 

Thomas is co-founder of RUOM, a collective of multimedia journalists specializing in social reportage throughout Asia. Based in Cambodia since 2012, he has been focusing his work on human rights and environmental issues in the region. His photographs and videos have been featured on The New York Times, The Guardian, The South China Morning Post. All photographs on this site are courtesy of Thomas.
